Joint Statement from the Regional Chair and Mayors

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - In response to the challenges posed by shifting U.S. tariffs, the City of Niagara Falls, in collaboration with Niagara Region and the other 11 local municipalities, is encouraging residents to Shop, Support and Share Local.

This Proudly Local initiative supports similar efforts from across the country designed to stimulate local economies and ignite pride in buying local and supporting local businesses.

In addition, the initiative reminds Niagara Falls residents that local shops, services, restaurants, artisans and suppliers are the heart of the community and that every purchase from a Canadian-owned and operated business keeps money circulating close to home.

Showing support for Niagara's businesses and workers doesn't always have to involve spending money. There are many ways to support and share local, such as:

  • recommending a product, service or business to a friend
  • writing a positive review
  • following and subscribing to social accounts
  • liking and sharing posts
  • signing up for newsletters

Niagara Falls residents are encouraged to look for Shop-Support-Share Local signs in business windows. In addition, residents can explore the many shops and services in Niagara Falls using the Support Local Niagara Falls Business Directory

“There has never been a more important time to support local than now," says Mayor Jim Diodati. "We can show our local pride and also explore all of the incredible offerings from area businesses and shop owners. I always like to remember that there is a family, perhaps a neighbour or a friend—people we know, behind every Niagara Falls business. It means more to them now and to all of us to shop local!”

Local business owners are also encouraged to contact City of Niagara Falls Business Development to access a variety of resources designed to support their businesses during this uncertain time. To learn more, email [email protected] or visit niagarafallsbusiness.ca.
