Update to Indoor Dining Capacities in Red Zone

To support the province's economic recovery, the government is cautiously adjusting dining capacity limits at restaurants, bars and other food and drink establishments, for regions in the Grey-Lockdown, Red-Control and Orange-Restrict levels of the Framework.

Effective Saturday March 20, 2021 at 12:01 a.m.
in the Niagara Region (Red-Control zone):

  • Indoor dining capacities increased using a scalable calculation that will allow for up to approximately 50 per cent of the indoor dining area to be accessible to the public, subject to physical distancing rules (seating with at least 2m between tables or impermeable barrier between tables)
  • Total occupancy cannot exceed 50 patrons in Red-Control
  • A sign posted by the establishment in a location visible to the public that states the maximum capacity (number of patrons) they are permitted to operate under.

The following guidelines and protocols have not changed:

  • Outdoors: 4 people per table
  • Niagara Region additional protocols: Guests must only dine with members of the same household and / or a maximum of two (2) persons essential for maintaining physical and mental health (learn more)
  • Take out, drive through, and delivery, including alcohol

Time Restrictions:

  • Establishments must be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Liquor sold or served only between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • No consumption of liquor permitted between 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Not allowed:

  • Buffets
  • Dancing
  • Singing
  • Live music performance
  • Strip clubs (can only operate as a restaurant or bar)

Guests must:

  • Wear masks or face coverings except when eating or drinking (with some exceptions)
  • Give their name and contact information

Businesses must:

  • Manage line-ups and patrons congregating outside venues ensuring 2m distance and face covering
  • Screen patrons in accordance with instructions issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health
  • Gather contact information for all seated patrons
  • Ensure face coverings on patrons except when eating or drinking only
  • PPE for workers including eye protection, required when a worker must come within 2m of another person who is not wearing a face covering
  • Limit volume of music (to be no louder than the volume of a normal conversation)
  • Night clubs and strip clubs only permitted to operate as restaurant or bar

A safety plan is required to be prepared and made available upon request
