Modern Landfill Inc. – 50th Anniversary

Over 50 years ago, Steve Washuta started Modern with just two trucks and a whole lot of determination to be a leader in his community. Steve moved his young family from the province of Saskatchewan all the way to Ontario in hopes of a brighter future. He started his own paving company and worked hard around the clock, building a reputation for dedication to his customers. Finding a reliable trash service was a problem for many of his paving customers. Knowing Steve’s work ethic and the service he provided, his customers asked him if he would pick-up their trash. Equipped with two trucks and tenacity Steve started Modern. Modern is an award-winning company known for being an industry leader in safety and innovation. The family that Steve raised in the business works hard to continue his legacy today. The Ontario community is a part of Modern’s history, and is an important piece of who the company is today. With local roots, Modern has office locations in Southern Ontario and Western New York. Modern is committed to being a part of the continued success of the region. In total it has over 400 trucks and provides jobs for over 600 people. Modern is invested in the future of the community.

The values on which Modern was founded on are as important today as they were 50 years ago.
