Kirkpatrick Monuments Celebrates 90 Years

Kirkpatrick Stoneworks has seen a lot of changes over its 90 years. Kirkpatrick itself was run by two families, the Kirkpatricks and O'Brines, from its opening in 1929 until 2001 when they retired and sold to Mike Law, an employee at the time who still owns the business. Over the years it has bought other smaller operators and now has 21 employees and offices in Simcoe, Welland, Fort Erie, Dunnville and most recently, it purchased Rigg-Mooney in Niagara Falls in 2016 and Barber Monuments in St. Catharines in 2017. At its Fonthill shop, designers use hand-drawings, computer designs, chisels (pneumatic or manual), sandblasting and abrasives to produce a tombstone with its inscription and design. The granite is shipped in from a quarry in Quebec. Kirkpatrick has a separate division that offers granite countertops. But it's the grave markers it is best known for.
